Exercise
Exercise is just as important as relaxation for your health. The muscles need to alternate between tension and relaxation. This is what builds strength in the muscles and resiliency throughout the body. With regard to anxiety in particular, aerobic exercise is often much more effective, both in the short term and in the long term, at reducing tension and producing relaxation than taking medicine.
Exercise physiologists tell us that there are five kinds of exercise which are essential to good health:
- Aerobic exercise
- Resistance training with weights or stretchy bands
- Core exercises for balance
- Stretching exercises
- Isometric exercises, particularly the Kegels, which exercise the pubococcygeus muscle, the muscle which controls the elimination sphincters.
There is a great deal of information available on the internet and in books and articles on the subject of exercise.
